Towards enhanced Plug & Charge interoperability: Gireve, Hubject, and Irdeto join forces
On June 16, 2025, during the EVS38 exhibition, Gireve, Hubject, and Irdeto announced the formation of a strategic partnership aimed at expanding global access to Plug & Charge networks. This collaboration between three major technology players reflects a broader trend of cross – industry cooperation – critical to achieving widespread adoption of electric vehicles

A partnership to strengthen interoperability
The primary goal of this alliance is to facilitate interoperability between existing Plug & Charge platforms, while upholding standards that enhance cybersecurity and improve the user experience. Practically speaking, the three partners are establishing cross-platform connectivity via their existing APIs, enabling their respective customers (CPOs, eMSPs, and OEMs) to access a broader network of charging stations.
This initiative already concerns approximately 4 million compatible vehicles worldwide, with particularly dense coverage in Europe and North America.
A structuring ecosystem
The ISO 15118 standard, which underpins Plug & Charge technology, is gradually becoming a key component of the global charging infrastructure, supported by regulatory and normative developments. In this context, initiatives that promote system compatibility are seen as essential levers to prevent market fragmentation and ensure a seamless charging experience for end users.
The partnership’s ambition is to give stakeholders – and, ultimately, end users – the ability to connect to the Plug & Charge ecosystem of their choice, with universal access across the ecosystem.
A shared vision takes shape
The collaboration between Gireve, Hubject, and Irdeto reinforces ongoing efforts to support interoperability and underscores the importance of cross-industry cooperation in addressing the technical, economic, and regulatory challenges of electric mobility.
This announcement comes at a time when various initiatives – normative, industrial, and commercial – are converging to establish an open, secure, and scalable Plug & Charge framework.
This shared vision is also a core objective of the Mobena-X project, which has, since 2021, been working to align stakeholders in the EV charging ecosystem around cybersecurity and interoperability challenges.
This partnership marks a pragmatic step forward, having successfully demonstrated a Plug & Charge session across infrastructures linked to different ecosystems.
Next step: building on shared foundations
The three companies have announced their intention to broaden the scope of their collaboration in the coming months, by incorporating market feedback and continuing discussions within working groups such as the OPNC (Open Plug & Charge Network Collaboration).
